RoseMary Peace
John’s darling wife RoseMary died in June at the grand age of ninety. They met initially just after John had finished at the Slade and while RoseMary was training to be a nurse at Newcastle General Hospital. It was – as he said almost every day afterwards, “love at first sight!” She was his muse and he painted and drew her often – wonderful depictions of domestic bliss. His last work was a pencil sketch of her, drawn just a few days before he died.
“Study for a Portrait of the Artist’s Wife”. Unsigned, undated, oil on board 18½“x25” and discovered in his studio after John’s death in 2017.
